River Walk hotel poised for $50 million transformation into luxury property
A longtime River Walk property is booking a total transformation at the hands of new owners.
Announced June 10, the Wyndham San Antonio River Walk has been purchased by Scarlet Hotel Group in a joint venture with Trailbreak Partners, and a major makeover is planned. Now closed, the property will undergo a $50 million renovation and reopen in 2023 as San Antonio’s first InterContinental hotel.
The forthcoming 4-star, luxury property will boast 390 guest rooms fit for leisure travelers and convention-goers, alike, the new owners say.
Highlights of the renovation, according to a release, will be:
- 40,000 square feet of meeting space
- 3,000 square feet of restaurant space
- Enhanced food and beverage options
- Luxury rooftop amenities
“Turning this property into a luxury hotel is an amazing opportunity for us to contribute to the city of San Antonio,” says Zio Pekovic, principal and co-founder of SHG, in a release.
“San Antonio has been ranked within the top three cities for conferences for many years, and we’re proud to bring a luxury hotel brand like InterContinental into the central business district, minutes from the Henry B. González Convention Center.”
Design details for the InterContinental San Antonio, as well as its food and beverage offerings, will be revealed in the coming months, the release states.
